Do All Bibles "Really" Say the Same Thing?
compiled by Joycelyn Martinez

King James (KJV)
John 16:30-31
30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

New International Version (NIV)
The NIV makes a sure statement whereas the KJV asks a question.
John 16:30-31
30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God."
31 "You believe at last!"

King James (KJV)
Concerning Sara's faith
Hebrews 11:11
11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

New International Version (NIV)
Changed completely to Abraham's faith
Heb 11:11
11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age-and Sarah herself was barren-was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.

King James (KJV)
Thou shalt not bear false witness
Romans 13:8-9
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

New International Version (NIV)
Thou shalt not bear false witness left out
Rom 13:8-9
9 The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "................................." "Do not covet" and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

King James (KJV)
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin here
Matthew 1:25
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS

New International Version (NIV)
Mary's virginity is in question here
Matt 1:25
25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a " . . . . . . . . . . " son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

King James (KJV)
God keeps and preserves His words forever
Psalms 12:6-7
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

New International Version (NIV)
Here the focus is off of the preservation of God's words and put on man
Ps 12:6-7
6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.
7 O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.

King James (KJV)
There is a reason that God chose to say "God" was manifest in the flesh
1 Tim 3:16
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

New International Version (NIV)
God is lost and so is Jesus Christ
1 Tim 3:16
16 Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

King James (KJV)
God used holy men
2 Peter 1:20-21
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

New International Version (NIV)
Here just any old man will do
2 Peter 1:20-21
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but " . . . . . . " men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

King James (KJV)
Matthew 18:11
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

New International Version (NIV)

King James (KJV)
Acts 8:37
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "

King James (KJV)

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

New International Version (NIV)

Isaiah 14:12
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

New International Version (NIV)
Lucifer is being spoken of in the KJV, yet the NIV leaves out Lucifer and gives him a name given to Jesus Christ
Isaiah 14:12
12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn!

King James (KJV)

17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

Daniel 3:25
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

New International Version (NIV)
The NIV makes Jesus Christ a son of the gods
Dan 3:25
25 He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods."

King James (KJV)
Jesus Christ was angry in Matthew 21:12,13, yet he had a cause
Matt 5:22
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

New International Version (NIV)
The NIV makes Jesus in danger of the judgment when he went into the temple and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers. Jesus had a cause!
Matthew 5:22
22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

King James (KJV)
1 John 4:3
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

New International Version (NIV)
Is the NIV here acknowledging that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh?
1 John 4:3
3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus ..............................................is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

King James (KJV)
John 9:35
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

King James (KJV)
"Let us not fight against God" is in its rightful place
Acts 23:9
9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

New International Version (NIV)
"Let us not fight against God" removed
Acts 23:9
9 There was a great uproar, and some of the teachers of the law who were Pharisees stood up and argued vigorously. "We find nothing wrong with this man," they said. "What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

King James (KJV)
Jesus Christ came in the flesh
1 John 4:3
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

New International Version (NIV)
Here the NIV does not acknowledge that Christ is come in the flesh
1 John 4:3
3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

King James (KJV)
Romans 1:16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein [the gospel of Christ] is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

New International Version (NIV)
Romans 1:17
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

King James (KJV)
2 Corinthians 2:17
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

New International Version (NIV)
Does peddle mean the same as corrupt?
2 Corinthians 2:17
17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.

King James (KJV)
Proverbs 21:21
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

New International Version (NIV)
Righteousness and prosperity are the same?
Proverbs 21:21
21 He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.

King James (KJV)
2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

New International Version (NIV)
Is "doing your best" the same as studying and is "correctly handling the word of truth" the same as "rightly dividing"?
2 Timothy 2:15
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

King James (KJV)
God said it! That settles it! I believe it! Do you?
Psalm 9:17
17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

New International Version (NIV)
It is a fact that everyone who dies today go to the grave! Does that make every one of us who goes to the grave wicked as the NIV states here?
Psalm 9:17
17 The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God.

King James (KJV)
Job 26:6
6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.

New International Version (NIV)
Job 26:6
6 Death is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.

King James (KJV)
Mark 9:45-46
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

New International Version (NIV)
Since the NIV equates hell with the grave in many other verses, they have to leave out verse 46 which shows it is literal "fire".
Mark 9:45-46
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
46 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

King James (KJV)
The blessing here is referring to the "gospel" of Christ.
Romans 15:29
29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing [elegance of language, fine speaking, commendation "eulogy", adoration] of the gospel of Christ.

New International Version (NIV)
"Of the gospel" is left out
Rom 15:29
29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . of Christ.

King James (KJV)

11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

New International Version (NIV)
"of the Gentiles" is left out.
2 Tim 1:11-12
11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The following is more from the King James Bible regarding this same subject:

Acts 22:21
21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

Ephesians 3:1-10
3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to youward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

King James (KJV)
Acts 9:29
29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.

29 . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him.

King James Version (KJV)
Mark 16:9-20
9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 .They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

New International Version (NIV)
Check out the NIV's footnote explaining their deletions of verses 10-20 here. "Most reliable manuscripts"?

9[The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20.]

2 To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse: Grace and peace to you from God our Father . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

More scripture from the King James regarding the previous important subject:

John 5:23
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

King James (KJV)
We become heirs of God "through Christ".

We are not just made heirs, we are made heirs "through Christ".

New International Version (NIV)
The NIV wants John to write down what he "sees" while literally eliminating the words John "heard"!
Revelation 1:11
11 which said: ..............................................................."Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

King James (KJV)
1 John 5:7-8
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

New International Version (NIV)
Leave out the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost and you deny the Trinity!

7 For there are three that...............................................................................................................the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

King James (KJV)
In the KJV, John was filled with the Holy Ghost before his birth while he was yet in his mother's womb.
Luke 1:15
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

New International Version (NIV)
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't "from birth" here mean from the time of his birth, after he is born?
Luke 1:15
15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.

King James (KJV)
The KJV confirms the truth of Jesus Christ being born of a virgin; therefore, God had to be His Father!
Matthew 1:25
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

New International Version (NIV)
The NIV leaves out "firstborn" which leaves room for Jesus being the second and; therefore, not born of a virgin.

Mark 1:14
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Christ said this "gospel of the kingdom" would be preached in all the world, then shall the end come. If it's not known about to preach, how will the end come?
Mark 1:14
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news .............................of God.

King James (KJV)
Mark 10:24
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

New International Version (NIV)
By leaving out the part about riches they make verse 25 (see below) to make no sense
Mark 10:24
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is .....................................................................................to enter the kingdom of God!

King James (KJV)
2 Peter 1:21
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

New International Version (NIV)
Regular men were "carried along" by the Holy Spirit? With their version they are more right than wrong because "regular" men would have to be "carried along" because they are definitely not filled with the Holy Ghost to be able to be moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 1:21
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but .............................................men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

King James (KJV)
